Abstract

Chiropractic in horses is a technique that is part of integrative veterinary medicine that must be applied by a trained veterinarian, who can provide additional diagnostic and therapeutic tools to help identify and treat the primary cause of horses, with the aim of reducing pain and discomfort from the spine, its bone structures and related soft tissues, both to provide the animal's well-being and to improve its performance. Chiropractic care is a manual technique that consists of stimulating receptors in specific joints or anatomical regions through the application of controlled forces, generating a therapeutic response, which will correct the failure in neurological communication, restoring body functions and reducing the risk of developing injuries. The objective of this work was to carry out a review on chiropractic care in horses, seeking to address the history of chiropractic care and its development in veterinary medicine, the performance of chiropractic examination in horses, its clinical indications and contraindications. In addition, describe the chiropractic techniques employed in this species, and finally comment on the associated use of chiropractic care with complementary therapies.
