ÁGUAS PASSADAS: retratos de uma Guapé marcada pela chegada de Furnas

Abstract

The presente work, aims to accomplish documentary bibliographic analysis with a journalistic purpose about Guapé, a city located in the south region of Minas Gerais that has its history marked by the flooding of the waters of Furnas in the 1960s. Such an approach is necessary because with the creation of the hydroelectric 34 cities were affected and Guapé was the main one. In addition, the lives of countless people were affected by the flood and the city was visibly marked by the effect caused by the arrival of the waters. The objective of this work is to understand and contextualize the before and after the arrival of Furnas, its impacts, and how it influenced what Guapé has become today. For the development of this article, a bibliographic study was carried out covering historical facts of the city and data from

governmental agencies, in addition to an analytical field research with qualitative semi- structured interviews with residents of Guapé about their memories of the city. The research

shows that before the arrival of Furnas, the city was in a fast-paced developing circle, but after the flood, it suffered numerous losses and had to restart its growth, which happened slower. Now, almost 60 years after the arrival of Furnas, the town managed to stabilize and it is preserved in this historical record.
