PROGRAMA DE CRESCIMENTO E DESENVOLVIMENTO INFANTIL: conhecimento das mães sobre a evolução de seus filhos

Abstract

This monograph explored the mothers' knowledge about the evolution of their children within the Ministry of Health's Child Growth and Development Program, which aims to promote health and the identification of diseases, risk situations, and act at an early stage. This present study was justified by the need for society to have knowledge regarding this care performed by the nurse, and can contribute effectively to the prevention of diseases through health education and humanization of care. The objective was to identify the maternal knowledge about the program and its basic guidelines, the nurses' orientations and the culture involved in the care, a qualitative research was developed in the basic health units of Três Pontas. Nine mothers of children younger than 5 years who participated in the inclusion criteria participated, data were collected through interviews. The majority of mothers are familiar with the Child Growth and Development program and its basic foundations, which, due to their historical context, have been present since 1986. The results of this monograph demonstrated that in relation to the nurses' orientations, there were two aspects, the minority declared no to be oriented, the mothers who are oriented said they clearly understood the language used. The majority of mothers know and use some alternative treatment, evidencing the importance of the knowledge interaction of mothers and health professionals, who should be well informed. It is hoped that this study will help nurses to reevaluate, update and improve their care of the Child Growth and Development Program, effectively contributing to the prevention of diseases through health education and humanization of care.
