A EDUCAÇÃO MUSICAL NA IGREJA EVANGÉLICA: A música na Catedral Metodista em Valença/RJ

Abstract

In analyzing the music that is performed in a church it is necessary to consider some factors, ranging from its origin and goals to external influences that can come from social, cultural or media contexts. The present work seeks to analyze through the deductive method of approach, the musical making of a church, specifically the Methodist church in Valencia, considering the influences it has suffered over the years and how these collaborated or not in the musical education of those involved. In the search for generalizations, and considering that there is still no specific record on the musical activities of the Methodist church in Valença, it became necessary to approach not only the documents of the local church, but also its contextualization with society, based on the method monographic procedure for this. For this purpose, a greater understanding of the music in the church was sought in books, magazines, newspapers and official documents of the Methodist church in each time cited. It was also considered interviews with members and relatives of former members of that church, who although they were not used directly in the presentation of the work, served as the north to search for the information necessary to do so, since this work has the purpose of that the knowledge of the musical past of the said church brings light to present events and allows a better direction for musical education in the future.
