AVALIAÇÃO NUTRICIONAL E O CONSUMO DE ANTIOXIDANTES DURANTE TRATAMENTO QUIMIOTERÁPICO

Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the nutritional status and the consumption of antioxidants during chemotherapy treatment. The study was conducted with 50 participants a specialized oncology center. The sample consisted of patients of both sexes, with clinical diagnosis of any type of cancer and who were under chemotherapeutic treatment. The study was approved by the Institution's Ethics Committee. To quantify the food consumption of the patients, the food frequency questionnaire was used, which is important to verify the average consumption of foods rich and poor in antioxidant nutrients; 24 hour reminder. For the diagnosis of nutritional status, data were collected as usual weight, current weight and height by means of the Global Subjective Assessment. Of the participants, 40% were eutrophic, 56% were overweight and 4% were underweight. The deficiency of all sources of antioxidants described in the study was found to be more than 50%. The study of the nutritional evaluation of the patients and the analysis of the consumption of antioxidants during this phase is primordial, as these could help in the treatment and ameliorate the symptoms during chemotherapy treatment. Being of extreme importance for a better quality of life of the cancer patient.
