REPRESENTAÇÃO DA MULHER NEGRA NOS JORNAIS DA TV BRASILEIRA

Abstract

This article deals with the representation of black women in Brazilian TV News. This approach is justified, since starting from the perspective that the inequalities in this country, besides to social class, are related to race and gender, it is necessary to look deeper to understand how the presence of black women in journalism is. The objective of this research is to make a parallel about the number of black and white reporters who report on the following newscasts: Jornal da Band, Rede TV News, Jornal da Record, SBT Brasil and Jornal Nacional. This purpose will be achieved through researches, analyzing the news broadcast in prime time, in the period of one week, counting black journalists in each station. The analysis showed that in a total of ninety-one female professionals working in the five stations, only four were black women. The percentage reaches 4.40% of black women, in relation to the total number of journalists. It is possible to see that with all the advances that blacks, especially black women have had over the years, there is still structural prejudice and racial discrimination in this country, sometimes in a veiled way and sometimes-wide open, ending in the low presence of black women in Brazilian television news.
