UTILIZAÇÃO DO REJEITO DE QUARTZITO COMO AGREGADO GRAÚDO NO CONCRETO DE CIMENTO PORTLAND

Abstract

São Thomé das Letras has the largest quartzite extraction center in Minas Gerais, reaching 35% of the total extraction in the entire state. The study area known as the São Thomé das Letras Productive Center, due to mining activities, has generated a large scale of waste production, reaching an estimated 32.2 million tons of tailings accumulated in the municipality from the 50's to the end of this year (2017), consequently bringing negative environmental impacts. The general objective of this research is to carry out technological studies on concretes of Portland cement using a large aggregate of quartzite obtained by crushing of tailings from mining companies, verifying the possibility of using this material in civil construction. The research carried out included the following steps: sample collection; technological characterization of samples; preparation of concrete in the laboratory and technological characterization of concretes.
