REPORTAGEM: Varginha: Patrimônio, memória e identidade

Abstract

This paper presents the description of a report that shows the importance of preserving and maintaining historical, cultural, material and immaterial heritage for the population of the city of Varginha, located in southern Minas Gerais. The city, internationally known for its alleged appearance of an extraterrestrial being, has a history, identity and heritage that keeps alive the memory of the people who inhabited it and helped build it. The historical heritage of a city holds the memories of that place. It deserves and needs to be maintained, preserved and protected, so that other generations can have contact and that identity traits of that community do not disappear. The characters interviewed highlight the actions that the city performs to make the population aware of the preservation and care of heritage. In addition to highlighting the need for public policies to happen, in order to keep alive the history of the city. They also talk about how some of these buildings contributed to the growth and development of the municipality.
