Abstract

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is known as a regenerator of damaged areas, used to accelerate the healing process. The criteria for enhancing tissue repair time with the use of PRP will depend on platelet concentration, function and growth factors. The approximate volume of PRP represents 20% of the total blood collected. Furthermore, it is an advantageous technique that achieves significant results. Thus, it is being applied in several specialties, including orthopedics, with the objective of repairing not only bones, but also tendons and ligaments. Some studies guarantee that the treatment with intra-articular injections (IA) of PRP is safe and has the potential to alleviate pain and repair the functionality of the joint, being also indicated in the postoperative period of surgeries for rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament. This study aimed to seek, in the literature review, the knowledge about Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), in order to identify the possibilities of improving postoperative healing in cases of orthopedic surgery in dogs.
