DOENÇA DO LIGAMENTO CRUZADO CRANIAL (DLCCr) EM CÃES

Abstract

Cranial Cruciate Ligament Disease (CLCL) is one of the most common conditions in Veterinary Orthopedic Medicine in canine patients. This disease leads to inflammatory and pathological processes that can result in traumatic ruptures, but it usually refers to chronic ligament degeneration, and when this happens, the joint between the femur, tibia and patella no longer performs its functions, that is, there is no a normal knee movement. The aim of this research was to carry out a study based on the literature review with the description of two cases. Currently, there are several techniques to reestablish the function of the dog's knee joint, the preferred one being the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy, but the most commonly used is the Extracapsular Stabilization, specifically, the Lateral Fabello-tibial Suture. These procedures offer the patient a better quality of life and well-being. The importance of always being based on evidence-based medicine is highlighted, as this research base contributes to the development of Veterinary Medicine, specifically the orthopedic area.
