A DISTOPIA NA CONTEMPORANEIDADE: ANÁLISE DOS DIREITOS FEMININOS A PARTIR DO “O CONTO DA AIA”

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss the importance of women's struggle in search of their rights, correlating the causes and manifestations evidenced by journalism and using "Offred" as a reference, the character, and narrator of the work, to analyze the situation within the fiction and trying to understand the patriarchal system and its interference in women's rights. This project will be achieved by comparing the work and the condition of women in usual days, using available literature as supporting elements. The analysis suggests that even being considered a work belonging to the science fiction genre, ―The Handmaid's Tale‖ shows characteristics that already exist in a social context and reveals criticism of this type of patriarchal system. In this way, the work fulfills its dystopian function, which is to present a possible future based on facts and events that permeate current society and that are part of journalistic work.
