Abstract

The emergence of the new coronavirus brought to the country a scenario of fear and uncertainty. However, with the absence of certainties, the moment also allowed for the emergence of false news in the health area. Individuals produced and shared on a large scale untrue news with the possibility that this information interferes with society's thinking and behavior. The objective of this monograph is to better understand how journalism can act in the fight against fake news in the context of the pandemic. We will also seek to explain what means of checking news exist and how they work to curb disinformation. We will also analyze public opinion polls to understand how society informs itself and how it reacts to false news. For this, a bibliographic review will be carried out in books, articles and websites. We conclude that the problem of fake news is not only the responsibility of journalists, but also of the government, social networks and the population. With the contribution of each group, it is possible to reduce the presence of false news, in the present and in the future.
