COMITÊ DE PREVENÇÃO DE ÓBITO MATERNO, FETAL E INFANTIL: a visão de seus membros no Município de Varginha-MG

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the attributions of the Matem, Fetal and Infantile Death Prevention Committee (CPOMFI) of the Municipality of Varginha, through the vision of its constituent members, demonstrating its importance in reducing these deaths. The methodology used was qualitative, descriptive and hypothetical-deductive research. The instruments of the study were: structured interview applied to CPOMFI members and participant observation. The results obtained were analyzed and grouped in the following categories: actions provided by the committee; financial support; facilitating and hindering aspects; and recognition of the importance of the committee. It was possible to show that the actions provided by the Varginha committee are important in the prevention of maternal, fetal and child deaths. Further financial and organizational support of the municipality is necessary for better functioning, as this was pointed out as the main obstacle. Discussions among committee members and professionals at various levels of health care were pointed out as facilitators in preventing deaths. It can be concluded that the members recognize CPOMFI's role as a tool of extreme importance to guarantee the improvement of the quality of care provided and reduce the occurrence of maternal, fetal and child deaths, preventing death and guaranteeing life.
