Abstract

This work investigates school learning, for the sole purpose of preparing students to meet the academic challenges, disregarding the fact that a man should develop in several dimensions: the individual and especially the collective. Such an approach is due to the fact that educational institutions focus their studies only on results, since the quality of their teaching, is measured and determined by performance on tests like ENEM proves Brazil, vestibular and selection processes in general. The purpose of this research is to demonstrate the importance of school work other skills besides the cognitive, seeking to enable individuals to learn, live, cohabit and work in an increasingly complex society. And thus ensure effective learning, to increase the opportunities and the ability to continue learning all. This purpose is achieved by a bibliographic review of authors such as Howard Gardner (1995), Celso Antunes (1999), Daniel Goleman (1996), Paul Tough (2014), among others. The study showed that for the school to have effectiveness in preparing their students in pursuit of their full development, it is necessary that approach also in the character of these. The so-called non-cognitive skills, social-emotional skills, should be worked in order to reduce inequality and enable formation of successful human beings over a lifetime. And not only think of financial stability, but become happy people in the family and where they live, productive and satisfied at work who choose to accomplish.
