Abstract

This work has as its scope a study about the branch of Environmental Law, precisely in what concerns the Municipality and the environmental protection. Such an approach is justified by the importance that the environment has because it is directly linked to the issue of humanity's survival, and the importance of its protection begins from the municipalities. The aim of this paper is to clarify about the prerogatives and competence imposed on municipalities so that it can assume the main role in the pursuit of environmental preservation. This will be achieved through a literature review of several renowned Environmental Doctrines and through research. The analysis showed that the municipalities have the ability to take a more active role in protecting the environment, because in their territory has a more direct contact with society and the environmental problems that affect them, thus containing a greater ability to cease them. more quickly.
